8 Favorite Wine Products You Should Own

If you’re someone who likes to enjoy wine at home, it is important to have the right products to do so. You should have something to open wine bottles, to drink wine out of, gadgets to preserve your wine, books to learn about the wine you’re drinking, and ways to store it. There are so many different products out there, so I decided to share some of my favorites and the ones that I think are important to have on hand. If you click any of the item images you will be brought to the product page on Amazon.

White Wine Glasses

White wine glasses are something you should have on hand whether you’re a wine drinker or not. If you ever plan to have company over or host a party, odds are there will be a wine drinker in the bunch. It just wouldn’t be right to drink wine out of a water or cocktail glass, so it is important to invest in some white wine glasses. Having the correct glass accentuates the wine and gives it the best taste. My favorite glasses are the Schott Zwiesel glasses because of their high quality, affordable price, and beautiful shape. Riedel glasses are a higher price point but the best quality wine glasses. You can find white wine glasses in just about any price range so it is not too expensive to purchase a set for both reds and whites.

Red wine glasses

Another type of glass to have in your home is a red wine glass. Red and white wines have many different varieties so it is important to have different wine glasses for the full-bodied reds all the way to your light-bodied whites. Red wine glasses usually have wider/larger bowls which allow more oxygen to let the wine breathe better. The same reason you put a bottle of red wine into a decanter after opening, so the flavors can surface more when coming into contact with the oxygen. Red wine glasses are my favorite style because they can come in so many beautiful shapes like a burgundy or pinot noir glass. Below are sets from Riedel, IKEA, and Schott Zwiesel.

Electric wine opener

This is a nice luxury to have at home if you open a lot of bottles of wine. You can leave it on the charging base and it’s ready to go for each use. They are very easy to use once you get the hang of it and no broken corks or pulling required! You will find that many come with a foil cutter which is a nice added bonus. The one linked is stainless steel and you can store the foil cutter right in the charging base. Electric wine openers are very affordable and there are many different product options to choose from.

Wine stoppers

Wine stoppers are a quick solution to a cork that doesn’t fit back into a bottle or to preserve your wine for a couple of days. I always look for wine stoppers that are leakproof for the chance that someone moves it around or lays it on its side. (I would hate to waste wine!) These are inexpensive and you can choose from many different types. The wine bottle stoppers linked are designed to fit all bottle types and they’re dishwasher safe! I would definitely recommend having some wine bottle stoppers on hand in case you don’t polish off your bottle of wine.

coravin

These best in class wine preservation gadgets are pretty magical. You insert the Coravin into the cork of your wine bottle and it pierces the cork just enough to pour your wine out of it. It doesn’t let any air escape to preserve your wine. The best part...the cork reseals naturally when you remove the Coravin needle! This way, your wine can last much longer without going bad. You need to replace the Argon capsules every 15 glasses or so, but many come with a few to start out. These tools are quite the investment, but if you’re someone who doesn’t go through wine very quickly, this is the perfect product for you!

Wine cooler

If you have a lot of wine bottles on hand, it’s important to store them at the correct temperature. The ideal temperature for storing wine is 55 degrees Fahrenheit. If it is much warmer than that, your wine could age much faster and you may miss its prime! By preserving your bottles in a wine fridge, you don’t have to worry about them going bad the longer you save them. You can find many wine coolers based on your price range and the number of bottles you’re wanting to store.

Wine Book

If you’re anything like me, it’s important to know the background on the wine you’re drinking; where it comes from, what it takes to grow that varietal, what tastes/notes to look for, how to pair it with food, etc. Wine Folly books are great for an introduction to wines or mastering wines. They also make for a great coffee table book or gift to a fellow wine drinker.

wine bar cart

Bar carts are such a fun addition to your kitchen or living area, especially if you don’t have a built-in bar in your house. For wine drinkers, I would recommend a bar cart that has wine glass racks to conveniently hang your glasses where you’ll pour them. Water-resistant shelves are always a good idea in the case of spills and clean up. You can find many different styles of bar carts tailored to your drink of choice.
